Through inspiring interviews and rare historical footage, Bridges—the first episode of a four-part series—features Latin musical pioneers and traces the rise in popularity of Latin culture in America with its vibrant array of music and dance. The film includes the great Machito and his Afro-Cubans, and Cuban bandleader Pérez Prado, who reflects on the mambo and cha cha dance styles that swept like wildfire across mid-century America. It’s a high-energy journey that takes the viewer all the way through the 1960s as Latin music begins to infiltrate the world of R&B and rock, from the Drifters to Santana, and beyond. Part of the series Latin Music U.S.A. Distributed by PBS Distribution. (60 minutes)
